Cat Adoption Drive

This Saturday we met with other people who manage cat colonies in Auckland and held a small adoption drive in Onehunga.

We took a couple of cats from our respective colonies in cages and put them outside the Foodtown in Onehunga with a stall. Many people came up to look at the cats and we used this as a chance to explain where the cats came from and that we trying to find them all homes.

A few of the cats received some interest and will possibly get homes from this adoption drive soon.

Willies Sub-cut Fluids

I just wanted to post this picture of me giving Willie her sub-cut fluids so you have some idea of what happens. Basically a needle is put inserted under the skin and a saline solution is injected. At the moment she is having 60ml every day to keep her hydrated.

Willie Seems Much Better

I took Willie to the vet last week because she was not eating. The vet said that she had lost a little weight but was 'ok'. It was not as bad of an outcome as what I thought it would be; he gave her an apatite stimulant and anti-nausea medicine and if she said had that she should eat.

It was much better than what I thought the outcome would be.

She has been on her medication for a few days now and I am very happy to say that she has been eating (she especially likes Jimbos - gross).

Splotches Not Out of the Woods Yet!

Splotches (or Willie as we now call her) came home over the long weekend and was doing well after having spent the week at the vet being hydrated and having the toxins flushed from her body. Below are pictures from when I went to visit her in the hospital.

Over the weekend she was not eating a great deal and when we took her to the vet on Tuesday she had lost 150 grams and now only weighs 2.15 kgs. When she came home from the vet she ate quite a bit but yesterday and today she has not really eaten anything and I am really quite concerned about her.

Last night I had to give Willie subcut fluids for the first time to keep her hydrated. These fluids are administered under the skin by a needle. It was not actually too hard giving them to her by myself.

She is going back to the vet tonight to see if there is any reason why she is not eating and if there is anything we can do. I suspect that the toxins may be building up again. I really really hope not cos I do not know if there would be anything further we could do to help her.

Moose Has NO Teeth

Moose is doing really well following the removal of ALL of her teeth. She is eating loads and is as cuddly and cute as ever. She has to go back to the vet early next week to get her stitches out and then she can be rehomed. She really is lovely and she would make a perfect big cuddly cat for a family.

Before she had her teeth done we had several blood tests done to find out if there was any health issues with her and the vet said she was perfectly healthy except for her teeth of course.

Mr Monochrome Finds New Home

Mr Monochrome (or McLeod as he is now known) is settling into his new home very well. He is especially fond of his new brother Cruze. Below is a picture of them on McLeods first night there.

New Cats in Mt Roskill

ALA has been asked to help out with a small cat colony in Mt Roskill. The colony is currently living in someones back yard and once was just one cat but due to the female cat not being desexed this one cat has now turned into seven cats. Surprisingly she had two litters this kitten season with two kittens being six months old and four being about five weeks old.

The four young kittens have not been seen for a weeks or so. The property owner is asking his neighbours if they have seen them but sadly they may have perished in the recent cold wether. Fortunatley for the other three cats the property owners are happy to keep them they just need help de-sexing the cats. If the young kittens are still alive they will be easy to catch and rehome as they are still very tamable.
